I’ve been working through a few more custom requests this past week and just finished up these two cute dog sweaters! The pattern is based off of an argyle pattern I used before, but the color changing yarn makes it extra fun! In addition I got in a request for a pair of Cuffed ZigZag Mitts in an Alpaca and silk blend for someone allergic to wool. I used Blue Sky Alpacas’ Alpaca Silk in Sapphire. What a wonderfully luxurious yarn – so soft! I love trying new yarn. Now I’m back to personal projects, trying to finish up a lace shawl for a Christmas present. Hopefully I’ll be posting pics of it soon.

Progress report – Start of September
It seems I am officially in custom request season now. I’ve had a steady stream of requests for custom dog sweaters and custom orders of available items from the Etsy store. Above is my largest order to date for 5 different colors of the Herringbone Aviator hat. I’ve also been working on a Christmas gift for one of my aunts and I’m in the process of working on two argyle dog sweaters, which are coming along nicely – pictures to come soon.
What I Knit on my Vacation
I had a few lovely days at the Jersey shore and brought my books and knitting along to enjoy some time relaxing. In addition to the knitting, we took walks and bike rides and visited the boardwalk. The best thing about knitting is you can do it pretty much anywhere, including on the beach. While I was there I also went into a great little local yarn store and got this red color changing yarn by Austermann called Murano Lace that is actually DK weight. Perfect for this matching hat and glove set!
Progress Report June: fingerless mitts in Malabrigo Silky Merino
I bought a few skeins of Malabrigo Silky Merino a while back and had to try them out on the new fingerless mitts pattern. Its interesting to see how the colors vary through the pattern. Some of the skeins also varied in texture a bit, but they all worked well with this pattern. It makes me want to try a few more of the colorways, but I’ll have to wait until I’ve worked through some more of my yarn stash. I’ve decided to work out the instructions from one of my previous fingerless glove experiments next which I call Dandelion Puff mitts, which will work with worsted weight. Look for updates soon!
Progress Report May 2012: Two Hats and an Infinity Scarf
Projects have slowed down a bit after the flurry of knitting and pattern making that went into the ZigZag swirl hat. I took some time to try another lacey scarf pattern and created this great pattern from two existing patterns in my Vogue Stitch-a-day calendar you can see it here (if you scroll down, you’ll see the pattern chart).
I also went back to my stash and found I had a bunch of little balls of yarn left from previous projects using Lion Brand Amazing in Ruby and Arcadia. I decided to put these to use with the simple Interweave Hat pattern and made two nice organic striped hats.
Now I am starting on a new fingerless glove pattern to accompany the ZigZag Swirl hat. Look for another update soon.
April Knit Lab II: Gingerbread Ear Flap Hat
I’m revisiting the gingerbread icing pattern one more time to create an ear flap version of the hat. I’ve made one or two of these in the recent past, but wanted to figure out the pattern and make it available to you! On this first prototype I’m adjusting the pattern on the ear flaps and trying out a rolled over brim for a cleaner edge. It will probably take one more prototype to finalize the pattern before I have it available.
